I resently picked up 2 kelly 1" gear pumps.   These both have the reduction gears that Kelly sold over 20 years ago.  They both have the 7" pulley before the gears on the pump side.  One has no motor and no motor pulley.  The other has a old Sears table saw motor that needs replacing.  It has a 2" pulley and a 3450RPM motor.  I suspect its running way to fast and cavitating and whipping the honey.  Does anyone have one of these that can tell me what motor, RPM (3450 or 1750RPM),  HP and pulley size it should have.

Just a thought but have you tried calling Kelly's or looking in their catalog?

They have always been friendly and helpful whenever I have contacted them with questions about any of their products, seems like someone even posted they sent them an owners manual for something that was obsolete.

Yes I did talk to a mr Day at Kellys that has been there forever but all he told me was to remove the old reduction gears and install a pulley direct to the pump.  He did tell me what RPM to shoot for so I will have to break out the calculater

there are several handy dandy conversion programs on the net to figure out what you are looking for.

here is a link to one of them

Danno; you lucked out! My son bought a whole honeyhouse of equipment 3 weeks ago and that exact pump was one of the prizes (still works too, but needs a new motor). It's a 3/4 hp motor, 1725 rpm, 2 1/2" motor pulley. Sounds like you got a deal! :-D

BTW Danno, what rpm did the Kelley guy tell you to shoot for?

he said to shoot for 300rpm on the pump.  Last night I marked a tooth on each of the reduction gears and turned it over by hand counting.  They give me a 4 -1 reduction.  This means that I need about 1200 RPM on the pump V-belt pulley.
One of the pumps had a tight spot while turning it over.   Mr Day from Kelley told me to run some hot water through it before taking it apart.  Turned out it was most likely old dried honey binding it up.   Works great now
