Hello everyone. I've just started bee school (had my first class this last Saturday the 19th) and I am so very excited.  I've been wanting to learn how to keep bees for several years but only this year finally managed to register in time and now I have finally begun the journey.  This is one of the most exciting things I've done in a very long time...I think bees may well be the coolest thing on the planet.  I don't expect to be able to start hives this year unless I get very, very lucky and win the ones that will be drawn for at the end of the class run & exams, so wish me luck (unless you are up to win them too!).  I will be keeping them in suburbia on 2.5 acres, half wooded, half lawn, and in addition to a large variety of garden flowers and wildflowers, some of which I will be planting soon, there's tons of poison ivy, honeysuckle, mint and meadow plants for them and a greenhouse full of orchids I expect they will get into somehow.  I am a short, middle-aged woman that is not used to a lot of activity (that will change) so right now after my introductory class I am thinking I may go for something like an 8-frame setup with a deep and two shallows, just because of filled weight.  Mediums may be more sensible, I will find out!  Looking forward to learning from my local community, mentor, and great big online communities like this one. :D
