I am hoping to aquire a feral swarm in a shed and I was kind of planning on setting it up about a half mile from my other hives. Is this distance to close?

My hives are about 6 to 10 inches apart, with room behind them to work.  A hallf mile would require a much longer reach than I have.

TREBOR

no, neither is 3 feet!
which is about how far apart mine are!
all 15 of them.

Horns Pure Honey

I am about 4 feet apart so I can take care of the apiary yard easy with a mower.

What is the reason for setting them a half mile away?

The reason I was going to set some hives a half mile away is that there is a sheltered area that is shaded in the summer and shielded from the wind in the winter.  It is also right next to a lot of fuit trees and a half mile closer to a 3000 acre prairie. I was told at one time that groups of hives should be at least a mile away from each other or there would be some sort of problem.

I think that hive seperation distance you heard about has to do with large numbers of hives. Like perhaps 25 in one place, then a half mile might not be enough distance for another 25.
