Beekeeping blogs :-P

Here is a blog I stumbled upon. I love the mention of "American way" when it comes to labeling beekeepers in the states, even though only about 1-2% of beekeepers are commercial. Meaning 99% of beekeepers are not keeping bees as they suggest.

And check out the average bee count for the 4 hives kept by the blogger. They total 2 million bees. I only wish my hives averaged 500,000 bees per colony.

I personally do not like blogs. They allow anybody to state anything, while claiming to be experts.

And of course my rebuttal to the blogger will no doubt get "filtered" out" and not posted in the approval process they have on the site. So actual facts and differing opinions can not be found.

What about you. Have any examples of beekeeping blogs gone wild?

I lot of the bee blogs start then drop off mid season I find. Bugs the crap out of me. Did they loose the bees or just loose interest?

Don't get me wrong, I have seen some very good blogs. Perhaps it has more to do with the structure of blogs. Many do not allow comments without an "approval" process. And I guess even here, there is an approval process in the fact that there are moderators. But with blogs, there is no rebuttal, no debate, no opposing conversation...and corrective action on blatant wrong information, which many times is based on the blog owners ignorance, is missing since the blogger thinks he is correct in the fact that he/she wrote it.

To me there is an information overload for the most part in beekeeping today. New beekeepers are inundated with a simply search of beekeeping. Everyone has a site, everyone wants to write a book, and everyone has a blog. And many times, there are very clear bad opinions and advice being passed.

At least on a forum, if some nut (nobody here of course) goes off the deep end with some wild claims, there is some leveling in the fact that others can respond, clarify, and add to the information given.

So when I see a blog with errors, I wonder if they are even beekeepers. Sometimes they are not. And it just adds to the frustration of many.

500,000 bees per hive? That means I have 13 million bees. :shock: Wow, who would have thought that.....LOL I suppose those hives also produce 1,000 pounds of honey each.

Thats one of my small ones, I use a line of vw microbusses for hives.

Yep.

We need a government law that would put a stop to that. Maybe even a law against certain forum posts that a select few deem invalid.

The gall of that guy. Thinking he has the freedom to post whatever he wants on the web!

Plus, everyone knows that all content on the web is a fact - we really need to protect folks that browse the web from people like this.

I have to run - I just read on some site (not blog) that aliens landed in China. I have to put my honey in the basement and hide out for awhile....

Nobody said or suggested to stop blogs. Why the call for government intervention and laws?

But I certainly hope nobody has a problem with anyone else expressing their opinions on blogs. Which is what happened. Maybe it irritates the P.C. crowd who don't like others expressing their opinions when it hits close to home.

Bloggers can blog.
Those who have opinions have rights to say how much they don't like particular blogs.
And sarcastic folks can be that too.

But calls for laws on the matter. :roll:

I'm much more for just pointing out the incorrect facts and comments on the blog. it keeps it interesting and gives me something to do.

Since I don't think there will be any laws on the matter, perhaps we should be appreciative of those pointing out the incorrect information being posted on blogs. Just reminding folks from time to time how untruthful blogs can be, helps keep it in perspective. Since blogs "limit" responses many times, it is not feasible to expect the information be corrected. So what can we do? How about pointing out obvious incorrect information on forums such as this? Even if some are sarcastic of it being done. ;)

Why be so negative? You know that with that many bees, they just got too busy right at that time to pursue the blogging.
