Leave 'em alone or restack for the winter ?

The bees at my house are occupying 1 deep and 3 mediums. And, they are stacked in that order.  The bottom deep, has 1 frame full of honey, 8 with a lot of honey and nectar and pollen. I found only 3 cells of capped brood in this box, next 2 mediums have brood, mostly capped, some pollen, some capped honey, and some uncapped.  Top medium is full of capped honey.

Should I restack the order of the boxes , or leave them as they are ?

I suppose that winter is coming in that corner of worl. You have a lot of brood.  I do not know if it is normal there.

You told this way

4  capped honey
3  brood
2  brood
1  nectar, honey pollen.

When medium is full of capped honey it is about  30-35 lbs honey. Only this will be  too few over winter. It needs 30 lbs sugar  more as 65% liquid.

It is better to take lowest box and lift it between brood and capped honey.  If you take not capped honey away,  however you should give sugar solution so that deep will be full of capped food. Then you have 70-80 lbs food for winter.

In insuated hive that will be enough over winter but I do not know how long is your winter there.

Recommendations ?         " Wayne"  By all means leave them the way they are.  As they work upwards during the winter the honey will be where the brood will be raised in the spring.  The top super.

I would go with Finsky and restack them.  With winter coming I would not want the ball to go up to feed, empty the top super then have a cold area of the centre to pass to get to the bottom where there is more food.  They could starve for not moving down.

As to imabkpr's reply Is this a typing error? I like to find honey in my top super.

If you have not scambled the order of the boxes in the last
couple of months, your bees have placed everything were
they wanted to for their winter survival, leave them bee :lol:

" Diver" No, this is not a typing error, its a fact.  If your top super is filled with honey and left on the bees for the winter you will have more than honey in that top super, shall we say brood?   cef

That is natural order. Colony starts wintering from lower parts. It eats its way upward. Then at spring brood and rest of food are topmost in the hive. Upp is warmest place when colony rises hives temperature to 32C.
