Portable Air Compressor

My compressor is not working any more and have been looking into buying a new one, I don't have the room for the larger size, I would like to get another portable one. Whats everyone using, any good ones?

I bought this little number new from Home Depot. It wasn't until after I got home and read some reviews that shredded it that I got a little nervous. Decided to keep it and have been very pleased. It also looks like it's scoring a little better on the reviews now.

We use portable compressors in our contracting business. I feel that the major factor in a small compressor is an oil filled compressor motor. I have several that are older than 10 years and do their job daily without problems. We found that the new oil less models don't hold up very long under much use.
You can surely buy the oil less versions cheaper, but have to replace them much sooner!
Btw, mine are the emglo brand.

You can't beat an emglo but I think they are being made by DeWalt these days (a Black and Decker company) so I can't say about the newer ones.
The oiled pump motors are not only more durable than the diaphragm models, they are more efficient and much quieter.

I have used the same red pancake compressor from Home Depot for the last 10 years.

Thanks everyone, I ordered a Emglo E810-V4Gallon, its not real big but it will work for what I will be doing with it.

That's the one, still looks the same. Mine are grey colored, you can still get parts after more than 10 years. You'll be a happy camper! :camp:

yep the little red pancake compressor from Depot serving me well here however it does occasionaly get my attention, quite noisy; I should relocate it to another room and run the hose to where I'll actually be using the air. A service note; I do put in a couple drops of oil in the tool I will be using when changing tools and/or perodicaly thru the day that should help the life span of the tool itself.

Just make sure that your tool requires oil. You wouldn't want any oil in an oil less tool. It will destroy the rubber components. :(

I use the 8 or 10 gallon 125 lb compressor from harbor freight it is oil type has wheels and like it much better than old pancake one I had also with wheel it is easier to move new one runs much less often with bigger tank cost like $135

"Portable" means you can carry it around vs. a 200 lbs. + one that is stationary.

I don't think anyone makes a small lightweight gas powered compressor.
You would be better off finding a small generator to run an electric compressor.

My new Emglo compressor came in, it is well built, I try ed it out on my new lids and I have 50 med box's to put together so time will tell. Thanks again for all the input.

I bought and use the DeWalt 4.5 gallon portable oil less compressor.
I was using the small diaphram compressors but they couldn't take the heat I guess.
You can do a google search on the type and name of compressor you have and buy the compressor section at a fraction of what the whole unit cost.
