Picked up a nuc Saturday. Went out Sunday afternoon to change them to a 10 frame box and found a ball of bees on the bottom board. Queen dead. the last of the eggs hatched yesterday or today. They have not started a queen cell yet. How long should I give them?
I thought there may have been another queen in but can't find any eggs. They would be easy to see on the black plastic foundation. :'(  :)d2

Do the Carnelians have smaller Queen cells than other strands? I did see one sealed cell sticking straight out from the frame. It was out farther than drone cells.  :) d2

It should look like any other queen cell.

A picture is worth 1,000 words.

As I suspected. 2 Queens in a nuc. Plus limited space for the Queen to lay. Early in the week they filled the only drawn frame with stores. Today was day 8 from the day I found the queen being balled.  The present queen has been laying for 4 days because I found young larvae along with a solid pattern of eggs/larvae. Once I found this I closed it up. Nice Monday. ;) :) d2
