55 gallon TBH

I live in Nova Scotia Canada and would like to know if anyone has experience with the 55 plastic barrel TBH  .. The temps could get down to minus 20 C but usually in the mius ten area if that... Is there a way to winterize or what is better... I want to make the hives asap for spring and summer of 2014... Any help with these would be appreciated... ty
