I know that there is no decisive answer to this question but how long should it take, on average, for a four frame nuc to build up to a 10 frame double deep colony assuming reasonable amounts of forage?  The reason I ask is that I am starting my first ten nucs this Spring.  The delivery date has already been delayed two weeks due to the cold wet Spring here in Eastern Ontario.  Last year was cold and wet right through the Summer.  Some of my vegetable garden did not get planted until well into July.  If that happens again this year, I will be facing more challenges than I may be up to as an inexperienced beekeeper.  I want to circumvent the weather if necessary.

To that end, I am prepared to feed as necessary - sugar syrup and pollen - to ensure optimal colony growth.  My second question, for the worst case scenario, is how much sugar and pollen might be needed to feed a nuc through to 10 frame double deep size?  I do not want to get caught short of supplies.  I have posed this question locally but never get an answer so thought I would try it here.

Edit:  Ignore me.  As usual, once I pose a question, I find all the info I should have found in previous searches.  Thanks.

The truth is what the truth is.  We can bend, twist or stretch it all we want but, at the end of the day, the truth is still what the truth is.

A queen will lay 1000 +/- 400 eggs a day. 21 days to hatch. Times the number of cells an a deep times 16 frames. With 7000 to 8400 cells per frame (depending on the cell size). With 1:1 nd a flow on I waoul say you are looking at 75 days.  -Mike
