I'm here to learn. I don't have bees yet. But I'm excited about the prospect.

Swarm season is getting close (free bees  X:X) and I see lots of queen bumble bees looking for old mouse nests around here.  They're always interesting to watch too.

Welcome---- go into your profile and add your location. Sometimes it makes all the difference in the world when solicting an opinion. As you noticed I said opinion and not advice :) !0 different beekeepers at least twenty different ways to do it :-D Enjoy the journey......

Thanks everyone. I was using my smartphone to read the forum and wasn't able to update or provide a profile.

Here I am in Washington state looking for anyone out there who is willing to show me hands on beekeeper stuff. There's only so much reading will do for my ability to get to know bees and the hive. Any suggestions?

GSF

I would suggest joining the local beekeeping club. Then from there you could probably figure out the best/safest choice for a mentor.

Unfortunately there isn't a club. The nearest one that I've found is almost two hours away.

This website is where I got most of my mentoring. There's a bunch of good folks on here. They will be glad to answer a million questions.

Welcome, Laurie!

You're right, Eastern WA is a pretty spread-out space.  You've probably already been on the Washington State Beekeepers Association website and looked at the map for clubs.  Your closest may be 2 hours away, but I would contact them anyway.  Chances are good there are other beekeepers in Moses Lake and the if they are members, the club can help you get in contact with them.

Also, if you have questions about your bees, folks here love a good picture so they can see what you're looking at.  As for how to gain information, many here do youtube vids, too.  Helps to have moving pictures.  :)

Glad to have you here!

LaurieBee

Great suggestions. I'm headed in the right direction. Thanks everyone.
