Have lots of crawlers around hive. Some as far as 75 ft from hive. I medicated a month ago with apistan and wintergreen salt patties. Any ideas what might be going on ?

Is there a lot of pesticide usage in hopelessly lost land?  Might be poisoning.

We live in pine timber, but I don't know of any spraying the big timber companies are doing. We definitely don't spray any pesticides.

Zombie bees??

75'...that's a long way from the hive.

Look at the wings of the bees on the ground. Are they separated? Do they look like a K? My second hive did that. Bee by the hundreds walking away from the hive. It cleared up on its own. I think the bees superseded the queen.
Sick bees leave the hive on their own.

All along I'll find a couple of bees wondering around on the ground around the hives.  Usually after I've done an inspection or been in the hive for something.  Are these most likely sick bees that have jumped ship or juvenile, non-flying bees that have been dislocated from the hive during the inspection?  There's never very many of them but it's always worried me.  :-\

Thanks for the inputs. I didn't notice any k wings nor deformed wings. If I figure out anything, I will post it.

Sorry buzzerbee, don't always get on forum. Located in s.e. oklahoma. I medicated with salt wintergreen patties and apistan. I hit them again with quick strips. I have never medicated for nosema. Some hives have done great but we have still lost several. Just trying to learn more. We have had hives for over six years . We were up to fifty by third year but seem to have about a fifty percent loss every year. We built these from feral hives. I know I have gotten off subject with this but are there online classes or somewhere to gain more knowledge. We do demonstrations for schools and are talking to a 4-H group about helping them. I always strive to be as knowledgeable as possible when I go into such situations so looking for some of the better resources. Sorry for the ramble , any help would be appreciated.

Train,
Check with your inspector. He/she should know what colleges in your area provide training and when.
Here, University of Florida provides 3 days of training several times a year at different locations. We have people come from all over the country and from several other countries as instructors and students.
Very worth while to go to.
