Hello, I am new to this group. I have read tons of materials on bee keeping and am exited about getting started in the spring of 2015. I know that the real thing will be completely different than the knowledge I've obtained in the books. I live in Stone County Mississippi and would love to get in contact with a local bee keeper who wouldn't mind showing me what its like to go hands on with a hive.

we have a bunch of southern beekeepers on here so i know you'll find someone close to you.

be sure to check out some of the post about buying equipment.  what you need and what you don't.  ways to save money as you get started.  suggestions on box sizes, etc...

welcome to the site!

When spring gets here a bunch of us usually hit Bud1's place for a hands on weekend in Noxubee county. Is that far from you?

Welcome. Keep checking back here someone is bound to be close enough to help you. FYI- If you are new to forums in general, the easy way to find this post if someone replies is to click/tap the "Show new replies to your posts" right there under the Beemaster banner.
Quite difficult matters can be explained even to a slow-witted man, if only he has not already adopted a wrong opinion about them; but the simplest things cannot be made clear even to a very intelligent man if he is firmly persuaded that he already knows, and knows indubitably, the truth of the matter under consideration. -Leo Tolstoy

Welcome. Last year I went to Bud's place as a first year beak. It's around Macon. I gain a wealth of knowledge with the hands on and just listening to the other beeks talk. I'd highly encourage it. He has a ton of hives and we'll probably be going through most all of them.
