Hello all!

I'm very interested in getting a hive or two up and running ASAP.  I've got a farmette (17 acres) and am not embarking on this journey to make money.  I simply am interested in Beekeeping, and am now in a position to give it a whirl.

That being said, I'm doing a lot of reading, as time is of the essence.  If it is not too late to start this season (is it?) I'd like to accomplish a few things within the next week.

1.  Order Nuc(s)
2.  Purchase and place new hive(s)

As I just found your site, I will be reading as much as possible, and trying to nail up the hive type/size/etc that I need.  If anyone has any tips/advice for the dead-beginner, please feel free to contact me or point me to a particular forum.  I'd rather not make rookie mistakes if I can hopefully learn from those made by others!

Well, enough from me!

Welcome all!

I suggest looking for a local bee club to join, most have mentoring programs. The club might help you capture a swarm as it might be to late to order bees for this year. Some Southern States and other shops are starting to carry bee supplies. Brushy Mountain Bee Farm and Mann Lake both have catalogs you can order from. They also have a lot of info in them of hives.

I use all medium boxes for brood and suppers as with my age and back I can no longer lift a 75+lb box. I use a veil only when I go deep into the boxes but I suggest you use what you need to feel safe (I am also not allergic to bee stings).

Ask all the questions you like, that is what this forum is for (sharing knowledge). -Mike
