My bees always head south when they leave the hive. Same thing at a buddy's, is this something all bees do or is that just the way to the good stuff?

buzzbee

Most likely that is the direction  of the resources they are working.

The local guy that knows everything said all bees go south first then head where they need to. I kind of thought that was strange.

when they exit they will go in the direction  the entrance/exit is facing for a few yards, then turn toward the source. You can watch and see that they all don't go the same direction. Try it, you'll like it. d2

What Don said. They fly out of the hive to clear the entrance area then head towards the food.
Sometimes my hives are under the trees next to my workshop. Some come out and go up through the trees and others come out and fly low over the pool in a different direction.
