I don't know about pain but I was affected by swelling.  I was drinking beer and got stung inside the lip.  It caused me to slur my words but freed me up to drink lots more beer because I had an excuse for my sluring of my words.

The inside of my nose is the worst for me. Very hard to pick the stinger out and very painful.
