Well got a call for a cut out, story went he cut the 60 ft tree down on March 16 and noticed bees when up in the lift truck. Dropped them in the yard and they have layer there since. He had some beekeepers give him some quotes to remove but he thought it was high and so they sat. Well the owner finally said it has got to go and we were called by a friend of a friends word of mouth deal. The log was 16 foot long and heavy, but with a little trimming my wife and I got it down to size and loaded it on the trailer

That was just a dolly I bought at sams club. I tucked it under the log with a strap and ratcheted it to the dolly and tilted it up the trailer ramp

JT,
I have removed bees from a lot like that. Pictures of it are here in the archives somewhere.
I used a chainsaw and cut the log length wise on 2?sides and pried it apart. There is a good chance the queen was killed when it dropped. In my early years, during winter, I tried placing supers on top of a log but they never moved up. Probably because the queen had died.
Good luck.

sadly they do. In our county they have to get a permit for it and still have others on the property, owner was saying there was a lot of rot

Well the cut out is complete and boy was it hot. Decide to try?s and just remove the comb from the end and work my why in, and I am glad I did. Also got to use my new vac that my brother in law printed and I put together when all the comb was out I smoked them to one end and there she was the queen!!!!! And with a scoop I picked her up only for her to take flight to the air.....nooooo and I laid down on the ground and watched for her. I let it settle down and smoked again and they moved back out and again she emerged  and put her in the clip this time, and dumped the vac on the 8 frames of brood and closed it up so they could relocate and start robbing out the log and some of the stores I pulled out. All in all 1 1/2 hr start to finish and got some experience out of it.
