As the beekeeper was spotted by the Royal Queens main guard of the hive, downing  his veil over his head in a steady pace for the apiary,  the Chief Royal Bee Guard said to the others , >Troops! We have put up with this invader of our homes all Spring., By toleration we have tried to keep peace. We have made every effort to avoid war as you all know! He has broken into our home on several occasions, stole our honey, and squashed some of our friends.

The last time was the last straw! We WILL NOT sit around and allow him to take another drop of our honey, nor enter our hive! !  The flow is over and we must guard all that is left with our very lives if necessary! ! We have got to get mean, real mean. Then the guard bee got very gritty serious and said the following his royal guards:

I really hope my bees aren't saying this today.  I've got to get the last of the honey off my super big hives, and my dad is going to help me with the lifting.

I thought you were just pulling my leg on this but yesterday I put 2:1 syrup on in the morning and opened the side door on that top box in the evening to see how it was going and they ran me right off. I was able to see that one quart was almost half empty already.

Terri I learned this my first season also. They can get testy in August during the dearth. (Dearth time in my area). .

Member how did it go for you and your dad yesterday? Calm I hope!

It went fine.  Dad did get stung twice in the arm by a single bee, but no real swelling or anything.  The bees were pretty testy, but thankfully the colonies are condensing by now and there weren't too many bees in the top supers.
