removing hive from tree

I came home to a message on my answering machine from a guy in my town with a "bee problem".  I called him back, and he explained that a strong wind had split open a tree in his yard and exposed a hive that has been there for about 5 - 6 yrs.  He had tried to kill them in the past w/ no luck.  He said that about 30 lbs of honey poured out of the hive after the tree split - and the bees went crazy, where he could hardly step out of his house.  they are now calmer and back to the tree - but still trying to gather up the honey they lost.

So he called and wanted to know if I was interested in removing them to keep - or else he is going to go ahead and kill them.

Any ideas if this would be worth attempting to get?  And does anyone have any idea how I would get these bees to move into my hive?  Thanks.
