What is your honey's worth ?

I have seen honey prices here on the board. But simply knowing how much you are being paid for say a kilogram of honey does not really say much about the relative value of your honey. Last Saturday, I bought some honey (heavily contaminated by dead bees, bee parts, comb, other unidentifiable objects). I paid approximately

$ 7.40 per kg

now to give this figure some relativity, the kilo price of both beef (cow meat, medium quality) and rice, also indicating percentage value compared to honey.


$ 5.50 per kg for beef = 75 % of price of 1 kg honey

$ 1.10 per kg for rice = 15 % of price of 1 kg honey

I choose beef and rice as two items being staple food items in many parts of the world (take e.g. potatoes which are not eaten by many people here and are considered an "exotic" food locally).

If I remember right a kg=2.2 pounds, and a pint of honey weights a pound maybe a little more, I'm getting $6.00 a pint for mine, my honey comes straight from the comb through a filter and into the jars... I would not sale honey that had anything in it like that.... Quality is most important and that's why I have a lot of repeat customers but I have to expand my number of hives to keep up with all the honey that is pre-ordered. I was going to expand anyway ;) .

my honey is not for sale jet:)
but prices here are... i think that the bee product processing company buys it for around $1,25 a kg.
people sell it at home at prices from $1,50 to $8 per kg. so average would be $5 a kg

honey: $5
beef: around $5
rice really don't know let's say around $1
