My bees were bringing in lots of yellow pollen today. I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on the source? This is in McHenry County Illinois ~45 miles NW of Chicago.

Why are so many of them dropping their loads, there in your last photo?

maples and willows are starting to release pollen about now.

There are definitely lots of maple trees around.

I think the bees dropped their loads because some of them were colliding with each other. They were mostly trying to use the upper entrance instead of the bottom. It was real crowded and they were being knocked down.
