What's the advantage of a wood bound excluder over a metal one?

The metal one does not have a beespace above it.  The wood bound one does.  The wood bound one is easier to spot so you don't leave it on over winter.  WHEN I use them (rarely during queen rearing) I prefer the wood bound ones.  Unfortunately no one is selling one for eight frame hives so I'm stuck with the metal ones.
