I mix powdered sugar and a little corn syrup at a time untill you get good firm foundant.

buzzbee

2 cups white sugar
2 tablespoons light corn syrup
1 1/2 cups boiling water
Combine and heat ingredients, stirring until sugar dissolves.heat without stirring to 238 degrees(candy thermometer) or until medium ball.Pour into a  bowl and let cool to touch.beat until light and pour into wax paper lined molds.   Makes 1 small bread mold sized block !

I do like Dallas does and just mix the corn syrup in a bowl with the powdered sugar. I mix it until it is pasty. You can also use marshmellows for queen cages. Just make sure the temps aren't hot enough to melt the marshmellow, the queen will get stuck in the yuck and it won't be a good thing.

the marshmallow is good only for the queens release. i closed 7 bees with marshmallow, and all were dead the next day-cloged intestine or something, they looked puffed up.

i just take a teaspoon of honey and add powdered sugar until it's firm enough. although this thing gets runny after a while..

eww, I would never use a mashmellow for queen cages, done heard to many bad things about them, queen candy is to easy to make with corn syrup and powdered sugar, for a fondant use buzzbee's recipe above...

I thought we were talking about queen candy, no? For release purposes, no? I don't use marshmellows because it is easy to make queen candy, but I have used a marshmellow or two before when in a jam. I thought I had heard members here use them sucessfully, the main downfall I experienced was the marshmellows gumming up, didn't know they could be harmful.

The original post doesn't mention queens at all.

I use leftover Easter peeps.  They are easy to carry for emergency use and have a sugar coating that keeps them from getting too gooey.

Mici, what on earth are you talking about.  Why would you close up 7 bees, don't get it, please tell us what you mean.  Have a wonderful day, greatest of our life.  Cindi

to do what they were supposed to do-to show me if marshmallow really is bad for them.
(7 is the number they put with a queen, if i'm not mistaking)
