The videos were very interesting.  A great way to spend a rainy day.  One question: why was a sheet of plastic placed on the hive instead of an inner cover?  I would think that lack of ventilation and condensation would be a problem.

the only thing I can is the hives aren't designed for intercovers , they are Styrofoam hives painted green, we dont have that style here in the states, the plastic works like a intercover on those, keeps top free, I also like how the metal piece locks the tops down.. I would like to try those style hives

Yes, the metal pieces would work much better than the rocks I currently use!  The wire looks fairly flexible.  Maybe one could be made from a wire clothes hanger.  I'm all about recycling and cheap!

One more comment: What kind of bees were they working in the film?  My bees are fairly gentle, but no way am I working them without headgear or while I'm wearing an open necked shirt.
