So lets here from the experienced Beeks around here.

what are your thuoghts about the New World Carniolans?

Are they worth the hype.  I notice these are the 3000 II queens they are selling out there...

Maybe those girls are worth 3K.....

3K....what?  We got NWC's this past season for our Maine hives (and they surely didn't cost 3k!!), so I can't speak to how they'll overwinter....yet.  They didn't produce much this season, but they had a late start, so if they make it over the winter we'll see what they do next summer.

Some of the breeder queens being sold thru Sue Koby's program were listed at 3K.  These were of course II girls.

BMAC,
I have just purchased 2 NWC queen from Strachan Apiaries to be delivered for Spring installation.
The cost was Twenty some dollars each, with tax, tags, title. I hope to give better details after I have first hand experience with them.

The local Carniolans purchased this year worked out very well, I will allow them to stay and see what they will do untill next fall. I have mixed feelings about keeping queens for over two seasons. I personally do not have enough hives to support internal queen rearing via raising queens through splits, etc.

I am excited in seeing what happens using the NWC this upcoming season. My wife is looking forward to a good year. And I am hopeful also.

Regards,
