I thought given her recent death and the respect of the beekeeping world, that it would be nice to own one of her books - OMG! The cheapest I could find was $164.00 and that was looking on www.bookfinder.com, EBay, and Half.com

I'll have to wait and watch - her writings must be amazing....

I've got a copy of Eva Crane's book: 'Bees and Beekeeping Science, Practice and World Resources". It measures 8 x 11 inches and is 614 pages. It's absolutely the best beekeeping book I've ever come across. Unfortunately, it went out of print fairly quickly. I bought a used copy a few years back from one of the online book sellers. I paid a bit under $100 U.S. for it at the time. I just looked at Amazon and they list 3 used copies for $126.50. Yes, that's a fair amount of money. One suggestion, if you are considering buying one, is to get a copy from the library on an interlibrary loan first before investing your money in one of her books.

Edit: check Abe Books, Alibris, and some of the other online used book sellers. They have used copies of some of Crane's books for even a bit less than the $126 I mentioned.

There's a new unused book for $185.00 at Abe books :-D They do have plenty of other titles from Eva.

like you say they cost a small fortune, I just called our local library and they say there are not many copies out there and they will call some other libraries they deal with and see if they can get me one, they called back a few minutes ago and said they would call me when the books come in, they got 2 different copies, so know I will read them for free :)

I googled EVE Crane and there are a few books for sale that are less expensive. Dont know anything about author or which books are desireable, but one was less than $50 in a used hardcover. Is Eve Crane and Eva crane the same person?

That less expensive book is one she wrote the foreword for and she is not the author - ARGHHH. I'm going to the library like TwT.

One thing about beekeeping books is that they provide a good source of accurate information. I usually always get copies of books from the library first before investing my hard earned $$$$ in them. Sometimes, I decide not to buy a particular book, and sometimes I do, and sometimes I do a bit of soul searching before making the purchase. As previously mentioned, Crane's book: 'Bees and Beekeeping Science, Practice and World Resources' is in my opinion the very best. Very likely it will have to be checked out on an interlibrary loan.

One thing I've found useful about internet beekeeping is that it often sends me to the books to check out the opinions presented as facts so see if they are indeed actual facts. :-D
