Capped Brood

Inspected the top box, lots of store and ther was also capped brood...is that normal this time of year?

---Its great that you have stores, I assume you mean honey stores right? The capped brood is normal also, its been unseasonably warm this winter in many states.

In California? I don't know. Here? No. But we had brood last year up until January the 1st.

Thanks, okay yes, we are still pretty warm here...lot's of activity at the hive today...still a lot of pollen coming in, and I can smell something blooming in the air, but can't see where it is coming from...We usually have quite a lot of acacia that bloom around here as well as blue gum eucalyptus...but I think the eucs bloom later in Winter...cheers

Its apparent that bees are slaves to the weather. They are capitalist when it comes to cashing in on what's available to them whether its pollen or nectar. Its a shame when they swarm late because they may not find enough resources to survive winter. This has been an unsusual yr to say the least, we have record highs today. Global warming is starting to really show its ugly head.

Last year was the harshest and coldest winter in 50 years in Oklahoma. We are definitely headed into another Ice Age. Remember when the scientists were absolutely certain of that back in the 70s and 80s? I do, we learned about in school and it was even on our "Current Events" quizzes. ;)

acacia is a very good pollen source and blooms year round here in the tropics.
you're lucky you still have a pollen source this time of the year.

In California you can have capped brood just about every month of the year.
