bee feed

Has anyone used candy canes as bee feed.

it seems I read this some
where and I have a bunch left over.

I know they have HFCS  and sugar in them.

Any thoughts on this?

HFCS is not healthy to feed honeybees.

It shortens their life span by several weeks.

There is probably not enough HFCS to hurt the bees. 
Almost all commerical beekeepers feed tons of the stuff to their bees in california to keep them alive. 

But if in doubt, don't unless you have a compelling reason.  You can save them till the bees can have cleansing flights, and hope the peppermint knocks down mites.... :roll:

  I know a beek that gets scrap barrels from a commercial bakery that the corn syrup comes in. He stacks them in the yard and the bees clean them up. He also gets broken candy from a confectioner and dumps them in the yard for the bees.
  The bees seem to do OK, but it does draw Yellow Jackets.
