I know some of you agree with the economic stimulus package and some don't, but it looks like Uncle Sam is gunna send us $$$ anyway.  Perfect timing for unexpected money for beekeepers I think!  I already got approval from the better half to spend a bunch of it on bee stuff!!!  I LOVE MY WIFE!!!

I've already spent it in my mind:  1 more hive body, 20 shallow supers, foundation, frames, uncapping knife, bottling bucket (with the filters), and uncapping tank (the cheap plastic one).  Oh yeah and if there's money left over I want a Ross Rounds kit and the Creamed Honey kit from Dadant (with the three flavorings, containers, and everything).  Oh yeah and can't forget the 1.5 lb bear bottles, lables, and a really cool sign for my road side stand (got a killer place right on a really busy road with lots of tourists and hikers going up to the national park).

Are you guys gunna spend this unexpected cash on bee stuff too?  Gunna get anything cool?

Sean, so sweet, you love your Wife, yea!!!!  I love that.  That sounds like you are going to be able to purchase a whole wack of stuff, yeah!!!!  Wish we had money given to us to do this too, but nothing here that I know of in our country......maybe I am not in the loop, hee, hee.

The only things that I think I will have to purchase this year is lots......hive bodies.....frames, foundation, yep, yep.  Going wooden frames with foundation.  My bees don't like to build great comb in the frames without foundation (hee, hee, I think they are lazy), they tried a few and they were pretty flimsy.  Maybe they would have been tougher as time passes, but after almost having some comb fall out of the frames, nope, not doin' it, I did something wrong and they did too, naughty bees.  Have a wonderful and beautiful day, love life.  Cindi

nope.  i am going to defeat the purpose of the refund/give away and put the money in our retirement fund.  IT requires stimulation   :-D

+ i just did an inventory of the bee stuff i purchased in lots last year.  i really don't need anything.....although i'm sure i could think of something to buy......

I'm with you Sean!!
I'm a firm believer in "Stimulating the Economy"!
I bet I'm one of the most "Economically Stimulating" people I know!!
My wife calls it"Wasting money" and "Not Saving".
With her part of the tax refund( should be in 5 days)... (if I'm not in jail due to screwed up filing), she wants to fix her car.(Actually MY other car, technically)
I told her to use that money as a down payment for another newer, more "Green" car as the buicks gonna start falling apart soon I bet!
I'd like to get a Tamron 90 camera lens for macro photog. and my bees :-D  ....I'd also liike to get more boxes, frames, and plasticell !
See,?? I can "Stimulate"!!
I'm also pretty good at spending money before I actually have it!
Concerning the stimulus package...My wife says the govt. is just gonna get it back some other way later on down the road....I say," "Thats fine, as long as i dont know anything about it!"
Ok,...

Ya well most of our 5000.00 tax money went into paying bills and my bee stuff. But I could use more. Always more lol. I want to get the mead kit and the creamed honey kit as well as the new Kids bee suite  from dadants that is only like 60.00. And all of my honey bottles. Then I will not need anything at the moment. I know we will need to pay bills. Dang creditors calling and stuff. But we come first. and we only owe a total of about 2000.00 between like 10 creditors so can not file for that. It will get done slowly but surely. And looks like we will get 1800.00 from that stim package.

Angi

johnnybigfish

Ohhhh, thats right,...Honey bottles...I forgot all about those!
Thanks for reminding me!
Angie, thats not bad for only owing that much. We are getting a good refund as 200$ a paycheck is extra money out of my check going into taxes. This always makes our refund larger than most peoples...But, of course, by refund time I'll have drawn out a signature loan! This loan will be paid off when i get my refund check.
People always advise me to put that 200$ in an account and it will accrue interest, and i'm sure they're correct...But if your name is John Michonski you wont have a prayer trying to not touch it or draw out of it for whatever reason, so I let the IRS guard it for me till refund day!!

I just got 50 new boxes and some beetle eaters to go in them. Now I just need to put them together and fill them with bees.

Cindi

Dallas, you naughty boy!!!  You have sent a mystery for us to solve.  Now I ask you, what the blazes is a beetle eater?  Got some kind of bug that is waiting in there?  Alien perhaps?  Tell us more, tell us more.......have the most beautiful and wonderful day, love this groovy life we live.  Cindi

Rob, beauty!!!  Looks for surely like something alien......I read the diddy in the Dadant site about it, it sits on the top bars, half filled with oil, I get that.  And I bet your bottom dollar that it will catch bugs.  But, what about the bees?  Wouldn't the bees go down there too?  Presuming that this is for the SHB trapping, compare the size of the SHB to the honeybee for me?   Not quite getting what is going on here.  And I thank my lucky stars we don't have to deal with the SHB, yet........have a wonderful and awesome day, groovin' on groovy life.  Cindi

I'm fortunate enough not to have SHB yet either.   The SHB is smaller than the honeybee, so I assume the trap is sized correctly to prevent bees from getting in.

Cindi

Rob, good, I am going to look at a site for my own peace of mind so I know what the SHB looks like.  When I took the beemasters short course we studied a little bit about it, but I never really looked at any size comparisons.  Checking things out, have a wonderful day in our groovy little lives.  Cindi

OK did a little research on SHB and size versus honeybee and size, please note that these measurements are according to internet information and might not be correct.

Small Hive Beetle:
Adult -- 1.5 cm (15 mm) (.59 inches) approximately
Larvae -- 10-11 mm (.39 inches) approximately

Worker honeybees:
Adult -- 5-15 mm (2/5 to 3/5 inches)

Just some interesting trivia.  Have a great and awesome day, groovin' on groovin'.  Cindi

I am also going to stimulate my mutual fund. My beestuff gets enough stimulation.

Between buying bee equipment and racing pigeons I busy spending my children's inheritance.

I've got 15 medium 8 frames to put together plus the frames.  In putting the frames together I will be teaching my daughter all the normal methods of making frames from wire & foundation (2 methods), pins and foundation, starter strips, and foundationless.
