As I have mentioned numerous timrs, Nj in an effort to promote new beekeepers, offered fifty scholorships to Rutgers Bee school for beginners. They all went the first day, in addition to an additional 70 students. Which has now grown into a second class w/o scholorships of an additional 120 students which now has a waiting list for May sometime. Our club is swamped w/ numerous people being turned away from the class seeking help. Thats good news too.

You'll get a kick out of this as well. Three gentlmen called me about starting beekeeping after reading the media blitz about bees last week. All three are over eighty! One couldn't hear so well and thought I said come on over. So he didi. It was easier to just have him over, than scream over phone that he misheard me! He came over. It was a little cold and windy, but some bees were out. Smoker dies on me so I say "wait a moment while I lite the smoker." He obviously hears "Knock hard on hive, they wont sting." Which he does, and they do! Five times on face! Now he's eighty. He starts screaming about WWII and Korean wars and cursing up a storm. Total "marine" language if you know what I mean. He left out no one ethnicity, religion, institution etc in his tirade, and then he burst out laughing. He says, "that was as muxch fun as killingh commies!" Now I am laughing! Make a long story short, I will find him a person to put a hive in his yard since he really just wants to watch, gets some veggies and a little honey. So I will give him my hive and supervise him and give him a "renters" jug of honey. I am still laughing at seeing his gyrations to avoid the bees. I am likely to do the same for the other two octagenarians!!! Maybe I have a "boutique" business, catering to the elderly beeginners bee crowd!
