Since I have a shallow super and a medium super and two hive bodies, why can't I put a shallow on one hive body and a medium on the other? :?
Thanks!

Weight will ultimately be the deciding issue.  I am new to this too, and learned yesterday that a full hive body is really heavy. Not so much that it is unworkable, but by no means a breeze either.

you can do what ever you want.  i just expanded a hive with a med.  i didn't have my new deeps ready to go.  i may use the med for a split later, or just leave it alone if the hive doesn't grow to much.  there is an advantage to using supers that are the same size for everything, but some of us :-( were not that smart in the beginning, so we use what we have.

never worry about asking questions.  everyone needs to review basics.  we all get something from the different answers that people share.

Rachel, never, ever think that any question is silly or dumb.  That will inhibit your learning about the bees.  There are hundreds more questions that you will want to ask, and if you feel that any question is silly, you will not ask, you must ask ALL and ANY question you have.  You should have seen me in the first year of learning about the bees. I compiled a list of questions that was about 105 long.  I sent these questions off to someone that said that they would help me.  Ooops, that was a mistake I guess.  (This was before I was a member of our great forum).  That person never responded to my myriad of questions, I am positive that I overwhelmed this person.  I found all the answers eventually by myself through continued studying.

So my dear girl, ask your questions.  If you don't get the answer that you need, ask that question again!!!  Just do it, you will never look back.  Have a beautiful and wonderful day, lovin' this life we live. Cindi

Are you getting out of the bees  :'(   :? ????    or going solo  :-X ??? Thats the only way that this will bee your last question ... ;)
I was told theres good and bad to haveing deeps ,or med  ...  the deeps are Heavy ,, less frames to go through ( 16 or 20 ) ,,, the med  ,,, lighter more frames (30 or 24 )   ,,,  so we each do what fits our needs.

Yep.  I never seen a bee with a tape measure!  They go where they can and they do what they do.
