I was looking around our farm today for a good place to put a bait hive.  I had read here that it was best if a bait hive was placed about 1/4 mile away from beeyard and about ten feet up.  My husband suggested a tree stand on the edge of our hay field.  Perfect!  It has a wide enough seat to hold the hive and a built in ladder to get to it.  We pass it on our walk every day so we can check for activity.  Since it won't be used for hunting until next fall, I can leave it up all summer.  Just thought I'd throw the idea out there.  I would never have thought of it myself...

hey Kimbrell!
Thats a great idea!
I have friends who have "deer Leases" and usually have deer stands also!
I'm gonna have to bring this up when I see them!

Hey,

I read in a post, and sure if it was here, that a keep did an experiment with 10 bait hives. 1/2 he placed 8 feet or better off the ground and the rest at different but lower levels.

None of the lower bait hives  attracted swarms but 3 of 5 high baits did attract swarms.

Which in my limited experience corresponds to the few removals I've done, and most I've seen, were also quite high off the ground too.

cheers
