Does anybody know of anyone in Iowa that sells bees? I just got my first hive and I'd like to buy a nuc, but nobody I ask knows of anyone. I found two places that will ship them, but the shipping makes the price about $165. Is it worth the extra money or should I just buy packaged bees? Thanks.

Hello Kruser and welcome to the forum!

When you get a chance, why not introduce yourself in the Greetings/Tell us about Yourself subforum?

First, are you connected with any local beekeeping clubs? They often offer beginning classes; are great places to find a mentor, and would be able to answer your questions about buying local nucs. Here's a link for Iowa clubs & contacts:

Second, I recommend that you update your profile to include your location. Since much of beekeeping is location-specific, we'll be able to provide better answers to your questions if your location is visible.

Third, this is a great forum to learn about bees. There is so much information! I use the 'search' function quite often and have found that many times my question has already been discussed and I can find an immediate answer.

Keep us posted on your beekeeping adventures!
