My wife thought she was being stung by bees getting under her Alex.veil. After going to the doctor she found out that a spider had bitten her. My grandson found the dead spider in the veil after the damage was done.
My purpose of this post is to warn everyone to examine you suit/veil/gloves before you put them on your body.
My wife is resting some better but, had some terrible pain due to this situation.
She assures me this will not obscure her beekeeping hobby.

Thanks Jimmy

Thanks for the warning. I know I keep clothes and shoes in the garage, and only sometimes shake them to get out any spiders or scorpions. Been lucky so far, but caution is better than regret.

I get bit by spiders all the time. Just a little itchy spot like a skeeter bite with two pucture marks.

I didn't know brown recluse spiders put you in a coma. I thought they just caused your skin to rot away.

"The physical reaction to a brown recluse spider bite depends on the amount of venom injected and an individual's sensitivity to it. Some people are unaffected by a bite, whereas others experience immediate or delayed effects as the venom kills the tissues (necrosis) at the site of the bite. Many brown recluse bites cause just a little red mark that heals without event. The vast majority of brown recluse bites heal without severe scarring (http://spiders.ucr.edu/avoidbites.html)."

jerrymac, you can have secondary complications.  staph infections, sepsis....  fever, infection, etc. can cause brain damage.  could have been caused by a lot of stuff other than the primary bite.

Jimmy, I think that this is an excellent thread that you have created.  Glad your Wife is doing fine, eeks, whodda thunk, a spider, eh?  Danno, sorry to hear of the child in the coma, that is awful.

These are little things that we don't even paid much mind to, unless we hear of experiences like this.  I will, for one, surely, check my bee suit or veil/hat before putting on.  During the summer I keep the in the greenhouse outside, and yep, that is where there are lots of bugs and the like.  Precautionary measures should always be taken for human safety.  Thanks for the  heads up.  Have that most beautiful and awesome day, Cindi
