Mentor or Teacher? Or Both?

I got a strange call yesterday from the local child's librarian.  She said her husband had found me through this forum and wanted to know if I could give a presentation at the local Library for their summer reading program.  Of course I quickly agreed. 
Just finished ordering some education materials from Bushy Mountain.  Too bad the 16 piece set of pictures of working frames costs so much, but I was still able to put some stuff together.  I also went to Bee Cluture Magazine and downloaded their Bee Careful handout so the kids can have something educational for their parents to take home.
I'll take a 5 frame nuc with foundationless, foundation, and drawn comb along with my gear and an empty package.  I know the kinds are going to love Bee vomit.  I'll be taking some honey and popsicle sticks for a taster.  The popsicle sticks I can recycle in foundationless frames.

Anyway, the upshot is that Mr. K has been lurking at the corners of this forum for some time and his wife even mentioned my Labor Day bash.  I invited them and extended the offer of giving beekeeping lessons to her husband so he could find out if he really wanted to do it before buying anything.

If Mr. K sees this; sign on and join the group we can always use another beekeeper in Anacortes.

I'd love the oppertunity to share the honeybee story... Especially to children. Explain the drone (boy), worker (girl), queen. Why honeybees swarm (reproductive cycle), how and why they horde like they do, how honey bees aren't aggressive (depends on area of US) like hornets, wasps, etc. Also, the challenges the honeybee faces and the importance of honeybees in our food chain!

The tasting of "real" honey will be a big hit! Hope you have fun and convert a few future beekeepers!!! I wish the boyscouts would get more involved. They do offer a merit badge for completing a beekeeping course of some sorts. We need more beekeepers.
