New to beekeeping with 2 hives going.

One hive going along swell.  The other is a bit lazy as it had some queen issues, but it is starting to move along.

Lazy hive has 2nd hive body just filling up and I am about to put on a super.

In recent inspection I noticed that the 2nd (top) hive body has about 7 frames of nectar and only about 1.5 frames of brood moving along.  I didn't dig down to check out bottom hive body.

Is there any rationale to remove a frame or so of nectar from top hive body and give them a new frame or 2 that would give the queen some more room to make babies??  I will be using a queen excluder under the super.

If so, what do you do with those frames with the nectar (not capped)

thanks for enlightenment

I would expect for them to use a good portion of the top deep box for storage...most of the brood will be in the bottom. They'll move honey around as they need to, don't worry.

If the bottom box also has a lot of honey, the hive could become honey bound, and then you'd need to provide a place for them to move the excess honey.

Taking a drawn frame out and replacing it with a frame of foundation won't help, since the foundation doesn't provide any additional space, either.
