I read everywhere that 1 tsp of Fumigilin B is equal to 5g.

According to what I'm finding out on my own, that's just not true.  At least without a gram scale.

1 tsp of Fumigilin B equals 2.5 g.

I'm using a cooking calculator.  FB is about the consistency of powdered sugar.   So then 1 tsp=2.5 g.  I still find it hard to believe that everyone is dosing this stuff at 50% strength.    ie;  only 1 tsp/gallon of syrup.

If the automobile had followed the same development cycle as the computer, a Rolls-Royce would today cost $100, get a million miles per gallon, and explode once a year, killing everyone inside.

Well I don't know the difference in tsp or grams, but the instructions say to use a rounded tsp per 8lbs sugar and a half gallon of water. I use it that way cause it says to. I figure they know whats right? If it don't kill the bees it only makes them stronger. LOL

i just did a little googling and found that 1 tsp of sugar=4 grams. if you are talking rounded tsps then it is less precise.

If you follow the instructions and you are wrong, then don't beat yourself up.

I'll add to the confusion.

I just happen to have an old bottle of the stuff laying around and weighed a teaspoon and it was 4 grams.

DANG ;)   one tsp to the gallon is the dose-RDY-B

BEES4U

I copied this data from the package insert:

One rounded teaspoon = 5 grams
Additional measurements
½ teaspoon = 1.5 g Fumagilin-B (31.5 mg activity)
1 teaspoon = 3.0 g Fumagillin-B (63 mg activity)½ tablespoon = 4.8 g Fumagillin-B (100 mg activity)
1 tablespoon = 9.5 g Fumagillin-B (200 mg activity)

Back page of the instructions:
Heavily invested colonies that will no longer take in syrup may be sprayed repeatedly, directly onto the bees, frame by frame with 1:1 sugar syrup(one part sugar to one part water) containing 2 g of Fumagillin –B per liter of syrup.
1 teaspoon = 3.0 g of Fumagilin-B (63 mg activity) 63/3 = 21 mg
3.75 liters = 1 gallon
1 teaspoon per gallon = 3.0 g Fumagillin-B per 3.75 liters
1 tablespoon = 9.5 g (200 mg activity)

MEDIVET   FUMAGILLIN-B
Mixing and Feeding Instructions in U.S. Measurements
Preparation of medicated Syrup:

We aregoing to mix the Fumagillin as follows:
For the prevention of Nosema apis : 44 gallons of water + 725 lbs of sugar + 16 ounces (454 g bottle)
For the prevention of Nosema cerana:  we will use 2x the dose which is 32 ounces ( two of the 454 g bottles.)

The 44 gallons of water + granulated sugar  was to make a 100 gallon batch.

Please notice the increase in dosage for N. cerana is 2X strength!
I could not copy and paste my excel spread sheet for other gallons like 50, 25, 5 and one.
God Luck and measure accurately!
