Hey Jim...hope you are well.

I've thought about exactly that....mostly because we did a cutout (in old officers housing at Ft. Devens) from a colony that moved into an old unused stovepipe in the wall...the combs were almost perfectly round, and were perpendicular to the axis of the pipe.

The contractor was due to show up the next day to redo the whole kitchen (including pulling out the walls), so we didn't have to be neat about things.

That hive is beautiful...as is, I think those would have to be considered "frames".

I would steam and put a twist in the round "frames", making them into mobius strips...then it could be a TBH!

This hive looks interesting looks like you are just seeing the broodnest and you can add full standard supers on top.
It doesn't look like you need any special kind of extractor.
I need a lot more information and I hope we can find somemore.

hrmm...  if the frames rotate to discourage varoa.. how do the bees keep the orientation of the cells correct?  As I understand it, a queen is not excited about placing eggs in cells that are angled to the side or downward??
39 Hives and growing.  Havent found the end of the comfort zone yet.

Hi,
A similar hive has been developed in Hungary. That one rotates one turn per day. The idea is that and queen cells once a day come in an up side down position. That is supposed to kill the larvae inside.
In fact,I made one two years ago,but never got around to trying it.
Maybe next year,the Lord willing!

Greetings from Alberta.
