I know there are probably alot of questions like this, but I've done some research and I'll try to keep it short.
I'll be getting 2 packages of bees in April and I'm trying to get our hives all ready.  I'm in the process of cleaning them (they've sat unused for 10+ years) and I'm trying to put together an order of things I need to get started.  I have the main hive bodies, frames, and foundation all covered but I'm wondering if I need any or some of the following?

1) feeders? (a question on those...I have raised chickens in the past and I'm wondering if I could just use the little chicken water(ers) for the bees or will they drown in the little 1" deep trough?)

2) any special food or vitamins to start off a new hive?
3) does a guy need the queen excluders?

thanks for the input, I just want to be prepared well in advance because april is a busy time for me as a farmer.

1.  yes but put them away from the hives and put rocks in the trough.  i use quail  water containers. you can also  use deli jars with holes poked in the top, etc.

2.  no.

3.  no.  they have their uses, but they are certainly not needed.

someone did ask not long ago about what was needed and we came up with a pretty good list.  KISS is the way i go.  lots of things are nice to have, but few things are really required  :-)

Good Luck.
I had a dream last night, I was eating a 10 pound marshmallow. I woke up this morning and the pillow was gone.....
