When to assemble the inner cover, which masonite side  (smooth or rough ) go on the deep side?

Thank you for your time

The ones I have that are assembled at the factory have the rough side toward the hive.  I have no reason or logic to explain why...

I haven't bought a masonite one since the 70's.  Masonite warps too much.  Mine are all either Luan (from beeworks) or 3/8" exterior plywood (from Brushy Mt.) or solid pine (from Walter T. Kelley).
