NurseBee

Hello everyone,
I'm new member but have enjoyed this site for several months. My husband and I are new beekeepers-10 months now. We  have two hives that seemed to have survived the winter just fine.  I thought I would share an experience we had with moving hives short distances. We needed relocate both hives from the side yard back about 150 feet to the back yard. We had heard about possible problems with moving hives---either move them a foot or move them a mile. Well we crossed our fingers, secured the hives with all the bees inside, and moved them anyway.Once settled in their new location, the sun came out,the temperture went up, and hive activity increased. About a hundred bees wandered back to the old site and hung around for a few hours.I stood and watched the bees travel back and forth from old site to new.Eventually the crowd at the old site dwindled down to just a few, and by late afternoon everyone had found their way home. All has been well since.

"Lurch my good man,…what did you mean when you said just now that 'You've got better things to do than run my petty little errands'…….?"

By the way, welcome aboard Nursebee!!
By the rude bridge that arched the flood
Their flag to Aprils breeze unfurled
Here once the embattled farmers stood
And fired the shot heard round the world
