After becoming interested in Bees, I started surfing around(trolling is the new term) the forums, which is great no doubt (Thanks Beemaster.com). Lots of people seem to say to try to find someone or a club to connect with to get started. I could not agree more!

I was driving down the street on the way home from cutting my Moms yard when I see a truck go by with a sign that says "Got Bee's" and a phone #. So after a little tricky driving to catch up(with trailer), I got on my cell and called the number. This sweet lady answers the phone, and I rattle off some crazy story about my poor old Uncle that has bees in his shed, and how I want to learn about bees, she says "pull over". So we pull off the road, Out comes Hardwood(Scott & Peggy), coolest couple you could want to know, so we chat for a minute, they invite my 4 year old son(Joey) and I to their bee yard.

They showed us their bee yard, gave us a jar of some awesome honey, and now Scott has taken lots of his time to teach me. They even let me help do a cutout with them(my poor old Uncle) and now I have a hive! Anyway, the moral of the story is.... Don't be shy, beekeepers are cool!

Thanks again hardwood!

Sounds like a lot of fun!  Way to hook up with the right people!!

I got into it similar...just stopped by a house with honey for sale and started talking to the old guy there.  He sold me a hive and gave me a lot of advice.  Nothing like talking to somebody to get things going!

Yeah, seems most people don't talk to other people they don't know these days. Except for me, of course. Not shy at all. I met some animal trappers this morning at the gas station, got them to take my # so if they come across bees they can give me a call. I have met some really awesome people randomly.

"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag...We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

You hit the jackpot hooking up with Scott and Peggy. They are fine people. If I lived near them we would see a lot of each other and I know we would be doing cut outs, fishing and hunting and trapping pigs.

Sounds like you know them well! And yes, I feel like I hit the jackpot. In terms of beekeeping and just cool people to know in general. I am looking forward to doing some more cut-outs in the future.
