Ok, I'm in the building mood again. I made about a dozen nuc bodies and migratory tops the other night. Does anyone know of any videos of how the big boys cut the box joints, handles, etc? I looked on youtube and either there isnt any there, which I doubt, or I'm using the wrong search terms.

I believe the handles are made with a Jig and Dado Blade
and I've heard others say its made with a router
the dado Blade IMHO seems like it would work

And if you get really bored and need a quicker way to slam boxes together, build one of these.

And when you make too much equipment, and need make some space and give away some.......... :-D

Thanks or the videos, but I was mainly looking for something like an inside view of say Brushy Mountain, Mann Lake, Humble, etc. I've gotten pretty decent on cutting my own box joints, rabbets, and handles, (with info obtained from this website) was just curious on how the commercial manufacturers did it.

Not sure if this is what your looking for, but this south American Columbian series of videos is coolest shop that I've seen yet:Apicola Industrial 1

Check out the other in series of I believe 4 videos. Have fun building for the growing bees 2011.

Those are great videos.  I wonder how much dust they eat without and dust collectors?    And I was really surprised to see them hand nailing boxes together with just a hammer in the second video.   And using 2 piece sides to make a deep box.   That was great.

Cool videos. Thank you, that was what I was curious about.

The only videos of inner workings of wooden ware manufacturing I could find yet. If you guys find anymore please post. Too bad some of the major companies here in US don't give paid tours so we can video. Yes Allen F that was odd seeing the olde hammer in hand, lol. Glad this was right up your avenue of interest V-K9  :).

Just recently found these videos on wax foundation manufacturing as well:

I would love to have one of those machines fabricated that they are using to cut the box joints. I've made myself a box joint jig to use on the table saw, but its extremely time consuming and  so I have resorted to the rabbet joint instead. My dad used to build cabinets so I'm fortunate enough to have a shop full of tools at my disposal and thinking about building some boxes to sell to support my habit. I just like the look of the box joint over a rabbet even though I think the rabbet will hold up better over time.

Shoot us some pics of your works if you don't mind.   Are you spraying or rolling your boards?

At first I was spraying. I love to spray, but hate the cleanup. Now its just a small roller and a brush for the hard to roll places. I'm going to find me a stick of something exotic and stain a box or two.
