Hi everyone. After years of reading on beekeeping, I've finally taken the plunge and ordered hives and bees for the spring.

I'm in Atlanta, so in good years I have a small year-round garden and I brew beer and meads, so having a couple of colonies on my property seems vastly beneficial to many areas of my life. I may have more idealism than sense going into it, planning on a chemical-free approach and foundationless frames.

I've read this forum off and on for a few years and I think it's really helped get me comfortable with the idea of beekeeping as a doable practice. I've also considered building a coop and putting a few hens in my yard, but my job is intermittently demanding and I worry I'd neglect them.

Seems like bees are well-suited for a certain level of neglect.

In any case, I've placed my orders and I'm really happy to have sites like this to post questions or learn from other people's experiences. And who would have thought "hivemind" would be an available user name?

Thanks JP, I've been reading Linda's blog for a couple of years. Very informative and inspiring.

Hey Allen, I've noticed a good Georgia presence here and like that a lot.
