I either cut the tree 3 to 4 feet above the entrance, or fell the tree. Then cut 3 to 4 ft. above. Seldom do I miss with that. Then I cut small chunks according to what the tree looks like in the cut. If solid, a good chunk of firewood comes next. If pithy, then small cuts until I reach the open area.
