I convinced a buddy of mine to get into beekeeping and he bought a bunch of equipment which we put together last weekend.  He got a screened bottom board, but the supplier didn't provide an entrance reducer.  He called them to inquire and they told him that screened bottom boards don't require an entrance reducer.  What?!!!

I've never heard this before and, as I understand the purpose of the SBB, it's use is completely unrelated to whether you would want to use an entrance reducer or not.

You are correct, the two are totally unrelated! Alot of folks buy the items they need now and not kits so entrance reducer usually don't come with it when you buy it piece mill etc.

If you feel you need an entrance reducer, for robbing etc, just make one out of some old scrap or stuff grass, twigs etc in the entrance until you get it the size you prefer.

Yeah, I can make one with my table saw, no problem...just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything.

The supplier wanted their 99 cent for that reducer.
