Can you combine 2 hives by placing a hive with a screen bottom board over a hive? And if so how long must they stay this way before placing frames in same box?

Do you know how to combine with News paper?
I did one two weeks age I just got back there today
and it went great :)
If not I think if you left the 2 hives with the screen
for a couple days then smoked and sprayed some LGO
when you combined them it would work
I read LGO and HBH sugar water mixed
spayed lightly works

Yes, the reason i ask is,  both bottom boards are screwed on and removing would be a problem in the field.
