Pennsylvania Apiculture Inc., and the Pennsylvania Backyard Beekeepers' Association has been awarded the "Governor's Award for Environmental Excellence" for 2012.

There were 15 winners selected for various programs and topics. 83 entries were submitted by associations, businesses, and academic institutions.

PennApic is the first and only bee association to ever win this award. PennApic has build a network of learning centers throughout the state, maintains hives at the Governors mansion, has an outreach program that includes overseeing the National Honey Be Day program, among other items. As we approach our second anniversary this coming summer, it is very rewarding to see PennApic grow (approaching 400 members) and their contributions to the bee industry and the overall environment.

I want to thank those who are members, those who supported various PennApic fundraising, and those that run National Honey Bee Day programs all across the country.

Thank you.

"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag...We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

The pedigree of honey
Does not concern the bee;
A clover, any time, to him
Is aristocracy.
