Breeder Queens

I'm curious to how people handle breeder queens as far as, do they keep them in mating nucs, mini nucs, do they use queen excluders to make sure she doesn't fly off, and I would assume you wouldn't let them build up to the point of swarming? I guess I am wanting the steps or procedures to make sure I wouldn't lose them.
