Here in Central Arkansas I am feeding a Dry Pollen Substitute (Ultra Bee from Mannlakeltd) and the bees are really going after it.
Here is a picture of a container I put out to see if they would mess with it.
In about 30 minutes bees were all over it.
You have to put sticks in it for the feed is like talcum powder it is so fine.
The Bees will just waller in it and climb up on the sticks so the other bees will help groom them.
They are taking it back to their hives.
Here is a picture.
The second picture is like the feeders I built. They work fine.

It has turn cold down here in Arkansas with snow and ice. The dry feed in the pvc pipe feeders is still dry.
One note about the dry pollen substitute feed, when the bees start bringing in ample pollen from flowers and such they will stop using the dry feed. I also use it in the summer when we have no pollen coming in from dry weather.
A little bit goes along way.
What I like about it is the small hive beetles don't mess with it like they do the protein patties.
Sugar syrup is good emergency feed but contains carbohydrates.
The dry feed contains Protein which is good for brood development.

   Agreed, and well said.
