Extraction equipment

Hi everyone, im about to do much first extraction I have a extractor but not sure if I should buy strainers. What do people recommend? My dad use to use stockings lol. Also i was going to extract it all in a 20-25L bucked with tap to fill jars for people when wanted. How do others do this? Im not sure if I should go glass or plastic or what size to get. I want something that looks good and shows quality. Any ideas of what size and where to buy?

Get a double metal strainer. All the bee supply places have them. Amazon too. Once its strained into the bucket, let it sit a day or two and then bottle.

We extract and put the honey into a bucket without filtering first. Let that sit for 24-48 hours and all the wax etc will float to the top, creating a layer of wax above and mostly clean honey below. We then strain it - it makes it a lot easier because 90% of the honey flows through with no worries, then the last 10% is the wax laden stuff that takes longer.The first time we extracted we filltered right away and it took forever.

We let it settle for 24 hours again so all the bubbles rise to the top, then we put into glass jars (in my opinion glass is better than plastic for looks etc). Our jars are 280g jars. Plasdene is a good company, check them out for jars.

Thanks Philk, great advice. What do you sell your 280g jars for? I was worried if I had jars this small I would have way to much honey and no one to buy it lol.

$12 a jar mate, or two for $20! Most honey vendors at markets etc are selling kilogram buckets for $10 each. Ours is some of the most expensive honey getting around in my area but we put a lot of work into it, so I think we should charge appropriately. People are willing to pay more for a product that is presented nicely I find.

How do you find the colour of the Plasdene bottles? I checked their website & thought they look a little greenish in the photos?
I'm trying to find *clear* glass jars for honey (& also to put jam & conserves in for Christmas) with no luck. All the ones at the local kitchen shops & the beekeeping supply store have the green tinge :(
